2012 Turn the Town Pink Events

Tomorrow, Friday, May 11, 2012, downtown Fort Wayne will literally turn pink, as the Vera Bradley Foundation for Breast Cancer kicks off its annual "Turn the Town Pink" fundraising campaign.

The event starts at 11:30 a.m. at One Summit Square Plaza. However, if you can't make it to the kick-off celebration, but live in or near Fort Wayne, try to carve out some time this month to take a walk through the downtown area. Pink ribbons bearing the names of those affected by breast cancer will be hung on countless trees. It's a touching and beautiful reminder of the women and their families who have battled this disease. You can also show your support of this event by wearing pink tomorrow.

The Vera Bradley Foundation has several activities planned in the coming weeks as part of their "Turn the Town Pink" event, including the following:

  • Free concert by Sierra Shame at Jefferson Pointe on Friday, May 18, 2012, at 6:30 p.m. If you have never attended a Friday Nites Live event at Jefferson Pointe, this is the perfect one to start with! The concert will be held outside by the fountain. Bring a camping chair or blanket and come ready to rock!
  • TinCaps "Pink Out" baseball game at Parkview Field on Saturday, May 26, 2012, at 7:05 p.m. The TinCaps will be wearing pink jerseys during the game, and there will also be an auction to raise funds for the Foundation.
  • The 2012 Vera Bradley Classic will be held Friday, June 1, through Monday, June 4. This women's golf and tennis tournament is held at various locations throughout Fort Wayne, including the Wildwood Racquet Club, the Fort Wayne Country Club, and the Sycamore Hills Golf Club. I believe it is too late to enter into any of the competitions, but you can still reserve tickets to watch or to attend the celebration dinners on Events.org.

Are you going to any of the events? If so, let us know! I'm hoping to make it to a couple, although I can't attend the kick-off tomorrow (having a picnic lunch with the kiddos at school!). However, I do plan to make it downtown after the ribbons are hung, and I will try to remember to take my camera so I can share some pictures with you!
