Vera Bradley Hope Garden and Breast Cancer Awareness

The Vera Bradley Hope Garden fabric is this year's 2009 breast cancer awareness pattern. If you are scratching your head, wondering just what the heck a "breast cancer awareness pattern" is, then stick around! I will tell you all about it...

There's no better place to start than at the beginning. In 1998, Patricia Miller and Barbara Bradley Baekgaard, the founders of the Vera Bradley Company, started the Vera Bradley Foundation for Breast Cancer, after a close friend lost her battle against breast cancer. Since that time, the Foundation has raised millions of dollars for breast cancer awareness, services and projects.

One of the major sources of funding for the Foundation comes from the sale of the breast cancer awareness patterns. Each year, the Vera Bradley Company selects one pattern, and donates 10% of the net proceeds from the sale of these special fabrics to the Foundation, as well as other breast cancer services and projects.

This year's pattern is the beautiful Vera Bradley Hope Garden fabric. Pinwheel Pink, Pink Elephants and Hope Toile were breast cancer awareness patterns for prior years. Buying a bag in one of these fabrics is an easy way to donate to this worthy cause. However, the Foundation does have other fundraising events. I will be telling you about some of them in the very near future...
